The objective of deploying a next-generation Ethernet Transport network is to aggregate multiple services over a common infrastructure capable of supporting the explosive demand for high-performance services both today and tomorrow. Ethernet Transport enables carriers to gracefully expand residential triple-play offerings combining voice, Internet access, and video services such as high-definition IPTV and Video on Demand. Ethernet Transport enables carriers to offer business subscribers Metro Ethernet Forum-certified E-Line and
E-LAN services with user network interfaces growing to 10 GbE, and Ethernet network-to-network interfaces (E-NNI) for global interconnect. Ethernet Transport enables carriers to provide Ethernet mobile backhaul services with the performance needed to meet sensitive timing requirements.

Our Service Provider product line up is very simple with a single operating system (XOS) across our entire portfolio, Sub-50ms ring recovery protection with (EAPS), ability to stack all switches for unlimited 10 Gig and MAC addressing future growth (SummitStack) and an intuitive Network Management System (EPICenter®) for point and click provisioning.

Extreme XOS: Extreme Networks® modular operating system is able to provide the network uptime users expect of traditional circuit-based voice networks. This paper provides an overview of ExtremeXOS, including the key benefits of a modular operating system.

Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching EAPS:  gives you Sub-50ms Recovery Time for Link or Node Failures. When a link failure or switch failure occurs, EAPS recovers within 50 milliseconds, comparable to SONET and SDH. EAPS provides resiliency for voice, video, and data services.

SummitStack Stacking Technology: SummitStack technology allows you to physically connect up to eight individual Summit® X250, Summit X450/480 and Summit X650 switches together as a single logical unit. This logical unit reduces the management overhead of fixed configuration switches by behaving as a single switch with a single IP address and a single point of authentication.

EPICenter® Networks Management System: The EPICenter® management suite is a key component of achieving network simplicity. EPICenter is a powerful yet easy-to-use application suite that facilitates the management of a network of Summit®, Alpine®, and BlackDiamond® switches whether performing configuration and status monitoring, creating Virtual LANs (VLANs), or implementing policy-based networking in enterprise LANs, EPICenter provides simplicity and efficiency. It establishes a robust and fully available network implementation while providing the flexibility to accommodate a constantly evolving network environment.
